In the act "Holy Soldier," Joshua is
transformed into the superhero Holy Soldier. This is only an excerpt from the act
"Holy Soldier." Some of the action described
here is from prior acts in the production. Following Joshua's Tree show at the
club
"Crossroads," the angel Gabriel lures Joshua from the backstage area of
the club to
his
truck and through the streets of Hollywood to the top of the central
dome of the Griffith Observatory. Joshua witnesses the Rapture take
place from atop the central dome overlooking the city of L.A.. After observing the Rapture, Joshua leaves
the Observatory
and drives through the streets of Hollywood on his way home observing
the chaos and carnage caused by the Rapture. When Joshua arrives home,
he discovers
that his parents are gone having been taken up into heaven during the
Rapture. Joshua is completely devastated knowing everything he was
taught by his parents his entire life was the truth and now they're
gone.
Joshua knows about the Tribulation Period and the devastation that lies
ahead. At this point, Joshua is in his parents room right after he
learns they're gone and is watching a newscast on UNN reporting on the
Rapture and its consequences.
Joshua
is muttering unintelligibly to himself and
shaking his head back and forth in disbelief. As soon as the newscast
on the television
goes to a commercial break,
Joshua
grabs one of his father's golf clubs in the
room and yells.
Joshua:
"Nooooooooo!"-(Immediately thereafter, he
smashes
the
television screen with the golf club. Following this, Joshua
continues to shake his head as
he walks
from his parents room to his bedroom.saying)
This can't be happening, this just
can't be happening.-(As
soon as Joshua enters his
room,
he
begins completely trashing it and
yelling)
It's happening just like they said it would. Why
didn't I listen to them, why, why, why!-(Shortly
thereafter, Joshua looks
upward with a look of total despair and anger on his face saying)
Why
have you done this to me?-(After
this, Joshua sits down on the end
of
his
bed and slumps over putting his hands
over his
face,
shakes
his head back and forth and then lifts his head back up. He
reaches into his jacket pocket and takes out a heroin "rig,,"
cooks up an extra large dose of heroin with the intent of killing
himself and
draws it into a syringe. He
looks back at a photo of his deceased
twin
sister Faith that's on a nightstand next to his bed and says) I'm sorry.-(Joshua
injects the heroin into his arm,
begins to nod off and
the needle remains in his
arm with blood running out from the injection site. Shortly thereafter,
he brings his head
back up and falls back on to the bed lying on his back. At this point,
we have an overhead camera shot of the entire bedroom with
Joshua lying on his bed with a needle in his arm. The camera
slowly zooms in until only Joshua and his bed are seen on the screen.
As
this occurs, Joshua's breathing gets
progressively more shallow. By the time the camera stops zooming in,
Joshua is no
longer breathing and his eyes roll up into his head. Immediately
thereafter,
his clinched fists relax, open up and we see his mother's cross
necklace in one of his hands. The cross is stained with blood from a
cut
he got trashing his room. Joshua
is now dead and lies motionless on the bed. He has the
bloody
cross in one hand
and the bloody needle in the opposite arm. At this point, Joshua slips
into eternity and has a vision of his entire life from birth until the
present time as the song "Eternal" plays. As the song "Eternal" begins
to play,
the video footage of Joshua lying dead on his bed is repalced by video
of Joshua's entire vision. The video accomanying the song is
broken down into segments based on the chronological time periods
of Joshua's life and the lyrics of the song. Each
video segment is a series of short video clips shown in rapid
succession one after the other. You can listen to the song
"Eternal" by clicking on the button below.
The lyrics of the song and
a
detailed description of the video segments accompanying it are below
the lyrics as the action continues
uninterrupted.)
>
Eternal
I’ve been waiting for You
all of my life
Searching for someone to know I’m alive
Still heart soft voice speak to me so I can see
That I’m not alone
I will love You always
And I will know You
Now that the darkness is
gone
A light for me this will
be
Eternal
I’ve been asking for a light
to
appear
You are the flame that can
conquer my fear
Inside my heart illuminate
me again
So I’m not alone
I will love You always
And I will know you now
that the
darkness is gone
You will be the air I
breathe
I’ve spent all of my life
trying just to survive
With nothing but tears left to show
Oh but now that You’re here I have nothing to fear no
I will love You always
And
I will know You
Now
that the darkness is
gone
A
light for me this will
be
Eternal
Eternal
I’ve been waiting for You all of
my life
Searching for someone to know
I’m alive
Still heart soft voice speak
to me so I can see
That I’m not alone
As the action
continues uninterrupted, the first video segment starts
to play as the song "Eternal" begins. The first video segment plays
from the 0-43 sec mark of the song and covers events in Joshua's life
from birth to about age 7 as the song plays and first set of lyrics are
sung. The
first video
clip shows
Joshua's mother Lisa Wells holding her set of newborn twins
Joshua and Faith
in
a hospital room
shortly their births. Joshua's father Steve is standing beside Lisa
beaming at his newborn twins. Immediately thereafter, we see a clip of
another mother and father in a hospital room next to the Wells. It's
their best friends and next door neighbors Saul and Sarah Goldberg and
Sarah is holding her newborn son Daniel who becomes Joshua's best
friend. Daniel
and his father Saul are key players in the "The Unveiling" particularly
their roles in the underground known as the
"BraveNation." From
this point on in chronological
order the following video clips begin to play. We see Joshua and Faith
sleeping and
embracing one another in
their crib,
Lisa and Sarah walking together with their children in strollers,
Joshua and Faith's baby dedication ceremony with their parents at
church, Joshua and Faith
crawling and playing together on the floor, Faith
walking
into Joshua's open arms and hugging him as they learn to walk together,
Joshua, Faith and Daniel
celebrating their birthdays together as they were born on the same day,
Joshua, Faith and Daniel playing together at pre-school,
Joshua and Faith attending
Sunday school and praying
together,
all three children arriving together for their first day of
kindergarten as Joshua and Faith
hold hands, Joshua dressed as Batman, Daniel
as Robin and Faith
as Batgirl as they get ready to trick or treat on Halloween, Joshua and
Faith sitting on Santa Clause's lap together, and
Joshua and Faith celebrating Christmas together and opening presents
with their
parents,
Finally, we see Joshua, Faith and Daniel
playing at recess together in the second grade. The point is to show
Joshua and Faith are
inseparable to
maximize the impact of the next video segment.
Joshua, Faith and Daniel are also very close and are known by friends
and familty as "The Three Amigos." It's obvious from the video
clips that Joshua was raised in a devout
Christian home. Keep in mind, these video clips are very brief and
shown in rapid succession so there is plenty of time for all
these clips to be seen in the first 43 seconds. At this point, the next
video
segment begins to play
uninterrupted from this video segment as the song and next set of
lyrics
from "Eternal" plays.
I will love You always
And I will know You
Now that the darkness is gone
A light for me this will be Eternal
As
the action continues uninterrupted, the next video segment starts
seamlessly
as the song "Eternal" continues to play. This video segment
occurs from the 43 sec-1:23 minute mark of the song. The video clips
show Joshua and Faith walking home from their elementary school, two
middle age men throwing them into a van and driving away, and Joshua
and
Faith tied up in the back of the van in a remote mountainous area. The
two men are serial killers known as "The Grade School Killers" because
they exclusively kidnap elementary aged children, rape and kill them.
As the video clips continue, one of the killers is
behind Faith and has one arm around her upper body and the other
holding a knife to her throat. Joshua and the other killer are
directly across from Faith in the van and the other killer's hands
are holding
Joshua's head in place so that he's forced to watch his sister raped
and murdered. We don't actually see the rape and murder happen but we
witness
Joshua's hysterical reaction as this takes place reaching out for
Faith. As the video continues, the killers are about to murder Joshua
but
he is saved by Christopher Gold. Christopher opens the
van door and shoots both killers dead with a german luger. Christpher
Gold is a 17 year old
foreign exchange student from Germany staying at the Well's home for
his
senior year of high school. He ultimately becomes the Antichrist known
as Dr.
Gold. The final clips of this series show Christopher holding Joshua in
his arms as
law enforcement personnel and vehicles swarm the area, the coroner
removing Faith's body from the van and Faith's funeral. It's a cloudy
and rainy
day at the funeral and the Well's are standing next to the Goldbergs.
Their son Daniel is
standing next to Joshua with his arm around Joshua's shoulders. As this
video segment closes, Joshua picks up a
rose, walks up to Faith's coffin and places the rose on it. The camera
zooms in for a close-up of Joshua's face. He's weeping and looks
upward angrily blaming God for Faith's death. This
incident turns Joshua against God and changes the course of his
life.
At this point, the next video segment begins to play
uninterrupted from this video segment as the song and next set of
lyrics
from "Eternal" plays.
I’ve been asking for a light to
appear
You are the flame that can
conquer my fear
Inside my heart illuminate
me again
So I’m not alone
As the action
continues uninterrupted, the next video segment starts
as the next set of lyrics from "Eternal" is sung. This video segment
occurs from the 1:23-1:47 minute mark of the song and takes place when
Joshua
is between the ages of 7-14. The final video clip from the
previous series of clips shows the close-up of Joshua's face at Faith's
funeral. This new video segment starts with a series of three video
clips each showing Joshua waking up from nightmares about
Faith's death as he ages. He sits up in
bed in a cold sweat and screams each time and a photo of Faith on his
nightstand is visible. Following this, clips show Joshua
acting out and getting into trouble
at school, refusing to go to church and arguing with his parents at
home.
The final clips of this series focus on Joshua's introduction into
music. The first clip is on
Christmas morning when Joshua is 12 years old and it shows his parents
opening a door adjoined to his bedroom that has a big red bow on it.
When
Joshua looks into the room, he's blown away. There's a Gibson Les Paul,
a Gibson SG Doubleneck Guitar, a PRS CE 24 Guitar, a 12
String Martin Acoustic Guitar, a Marshall and Mesa Boogie full stack, a
massive array of different pedals and effects, a DW drum kit and a
fully professional home recording studio. At this point, we see a rapid
time
lapsed video of Joshua in the studio over a 2 year period of time while
he's in junior high school. We see Joshua playing all the instruments
in the studio, working with the home recording studio equipment and
more and more musical equipment in the studio bought by his parents. Daniel
is seen repeatedly in this video hanging out with Joshua in the studio.
It's apparent Joshua is learning his craft at a geometric rate and is a
musical genius. The large room adjoined to his bedroom is
now his recording and rehearsal studio. After Joshua is saved and
becomes Holy Soldier, he names the studio "The Bunker." Ever since the
death of his sister and the traumatic
incident he endured, Lisa and Steve have spoiled him hoping it
would help him deal with the trauma and change his bad behavior.
However, their actions predictably backfire.
At this point, the next video segment begins to play
uninterrupted from this video segment as the song and next set of
lyrics
from "Eternal" plays.
I will love You always
And I will know you now
that the
darkness is gone
You will be the air I
breathe
As
the action
continues uninterrupted, the next video segment starts
as the next set of lyrics from "Eternal" is sung. This video
segment
occurs from the 1:47-2:15 minute mark of the song "Eternal" and takes place
during Joshua's high school years up until he's 21 years old two weeks
before the show at
"Crossroads." The first clip of this new video segment goes from
showing Joshua
alone in his studio from the previous segment to showing his entire
band "Joshua's Tree" rehearsing in the studio. Following
this, we see Joshua arguing with his parents in his room. His
father is yelling and
pointing at a teardrop tattoo at the corner of Joshua's eye. Joshua is
also screaming and points at the picture of Faith on his nightstand
signifying he got the tattoo in
honor of his deceased sister Faith. The remaining clips
show Joshua pouring a carton of milk on Daniel's head who is eating by
himself in the high school cafeteria and everyone laughs at him, Joshua
hanging out at high school with his band and girlfriend Darlene,
Joshua
smoking pot and snorting cocaine at high school parties, Joshua
defacing the church
he was raised in, Joshua at his high school graduation, Joshua starting
to shoot up heroin post high school, Joshua shaving his head with a
crazed look on his face with tattoos of Lucifer and a pentgram with
skulls visible on his arms as shown below in Model 5,
the physical effects of Joshua's heroin addiction, Darlene catching
Joshua cheating on her, and "Joshua's Tree"
headlining the House of Blues two weeks before the show at Crossroads.
Joshua is 6' 2" and has a muscular build up until his
heroin addiction which causes him to look guant and emaciated with dark
circles around his eyes. He also has numerous abscessess on his arms
from shooting up that are
partially hidden by his tattoo sleeves. Once again
keep in mind, these video clips are very brief
and there is sufficient time for all of them to play in the allotted
time frame.
At this point, the next video segment begins to play
uninterrupted from this video segment as the song and next set of
lyrics
from "Eternal" plays.
I've
spent all of my life trying just to survive
With nothing but tears left to show
Oh but now that You're here I have nothing to fear
As the action
continues uninterrupted, the next video segment starts
as the next set of lyrics from "Eternal" is sung. The particular
video segment is entitled "Doors" for obvious reasons and occurs from
the
2:15-2:36
minute mark of the song "Eternal." It takes place
the night of the show at Crossroads up to the present time as Joshua
lays on his bed dead from the heroin overdose. As this video
segment begins, we see Joshua in his bedroom the night of the show at
Crossroads. He has a soft guitar case slung over his
shoulder and opens his bedroom door. As soon as Joshua
takes the first step outside his bedroom, he's at the front door of his
parent's home with the soft guitar case
over his shoulder. His parents are having a Bible study on Halloween
night and can be seen with their guests in the background.
When Joshua opens the front door and takes his first step
outside,
he's backstage at Crossroads following the show at the back
exit of the club as seen in prior video footage. When Joshua opens the
door of the back exit of Crossroads and takes a step
outside, he's in his truck at the Griffith
Observatory just prior to the Rapture as seen in prior video footage.
As soon as Joshua opens his truck door and takes his first step
outside, he's right outside the front door of his home following the
Rapture as
seen in prior video footage. When Joshua opens the front door and
steps inside his home, he's right outside his parents bathroom door as
seen in prior footage. As soon as Joshua opens the
bathroom door and steps inside, he's right outside his bedroom door in
the vision. After
the lyrics "Oh
but now that You're here I have nothing to fear" are sung, Joshua's
bedroom door bursts open flying off its hinges and the camera zooms in
on him lying dead on the bed. Immediately thereafter, Joshua's eyes
open up as he comes back to life, he stands up in front of his bedroom
window as
shown below in Model 2, looks upward and
professes His faith in Christ saying "I believe." The
conceptual idea of this sequence of action is based upon
Revelation 3:20. Keep
in mind, Joshua is seeing the action of himself opening one door after
another in the vision as the final moments of his life are retraced. By
the time Joshua reaches his bedroom door in the vision, he believes in
Christ and is ready to accept Him. It's at this point the vision and
reality merge and Joshua's bedroom door actually does burst open and
fly off its hinges. The vision is now over and the action continues
uninterrupted below Model 6 as Joshua is transformed into Holy Soldier
during the guitar solo of the song "Eternal." Note: this video segment
is simply Joshua opening a door, taking one step, opening the next
door and taking another step repeatedly so there's plenty of time for
this video segment to occur in the alloted time. Finally, "prior
footage"above refers to video seen earlier in the production before the
action in this act.

Guitar solo of the song "Eternal"
As the action continues uninterrupted, the next video segment
starts
as the guitar solo from the song "Eternal" begins to play. This occurs
from the
2:35-3:00
minute mark of the song and Joshua is
transformed into Holy Soldier.
As soon as Joshua says "I believe," the sky above
Joshua's home opens up, the deafening sound of a rushing wind is
heard which is the Holy Spirit,
a bright light shoots downward from the sky and enters Joshua's bedroom
shining down on him and literally enters his body as shown above in
Models 3 and 4. The light
also lights up the bedroom
and entire home brightly as shown above in Models 3 and 4. As
soon as
the
light from above enters Joshua's body, his whole body
flexes, his
drug-ravaged body miraculously fills out and he becomes a
perfect physical specimen as shown above in Model 6, the track marks
and absesses on
his arms from his heroin use disappear, his face fills out and the
color
returns to it, and the black circles
around his eyes vanish. As the action continues, we see light move over
his chest under his shirt. The "Holy
Soldier" icon is being branded on his chest as shown above in Model 6.
However, we don't see the Holy Soldier tattoo on his chest until later
action. The "Holy
Soldier" icon also
appears on the back of his right hand. The tattoos
on
Joshua's arms change in the following manner. In sync with the guitar
solo from the 2:55-3:00 minute mark of the song "Eternal," the tattoos
on both of Joshua's arms change moving from the hands upwards to the
top of both of his arms. The vine and roses
tattoos replace the flame tattoos on both arms at the same
time. It's
as if the vine and roses tattoos are growing over and replacing the
flame
tattoos as it moves up both of Joshua's arms. Both
the vines(the true vine) and the roses(the Rose of Sharon) are names
Christ is known by.
When the vine and roses
tattoo reach the tattoo of the pentagram and skulls on Joshua's left
arm, it's replaced by a tattoo of a cross as shown above in Models 5
and
6. When
the vine and roses tattoo on Joshua's right arm reach the caricature
of the Satan tattoo, it's replaced by a tattoo of Christ as shown above
in
Models 5 and 6. The tattoos on both arms have completely changed as
shown
above in Models 5 and 6. Following
this,
a
blinding bright light shines through the window Joshua's standing in
front of and instantaneuosly the house and all the
surrounding area peels away. Joshua is now standing on top of Mt. Zion
in the presence of God
who
has taken the form of a blinding bright light above Mt. Zion as
shown below
in Model 7. The action continues uninterrupted on Mt Zion with the next
set of lyrics from the song "Eternal" which are below Model 15. At this
point, Joshua has multiple superpowers and has been transformed into
the superhero Holy Soldier. Joshua's doesn't know what superpowers he
possesses at
this time nor does the audience watching "The Unveiling." These powers
will be
unveiled in critical moments in the
remaining action in "The Unveiling.")
